How adaptive learning is improving upon the failures of the education system

The education system has failed thousands if not millions of students and learners around the world. It aims to fit individuals from drastically different backgrounds and personalities into a single mold.

Many learners are left behind in training and advancement through academics because they do not fit the mold of the system and are unable to grasp concepts taught through this model. IntellAdapt aims to provide the platform that is easily accessible through mobile technology giving accessibility to anyone, anywhere and present difficult to grasp concepts in a way best suited to your specific learning style. IntellAdapt allows students already enrolled in academic institutions to gain a competitive edge. To many who don’t have the time or haven’t had the opportunity to advance or grip difficult concepts available only through academia or high-priced training, it allows easy access and efficient learning. Learn more about how IntellAdapt can give YOU an edge over other learners in the digital age.

IntellAdapt has one vision; To be a game-changer in how we learn and teach. Designed to cater to learning strategies to ensure success, IntellAdapt measures a learner’s reaction to various learning strategies. In the course of one preliminary session, IntellAdapt identifies an optimal approach to learning. Each customized to an individual’s learning potential. We developed Brainiak on the model of cognitive-based learning and stimuli observation. Brainiak adaptive learning entails an EEG headband and the Brainiak Analytics AI application.

So, this is how it works.

A student wears a headband that is Bluetooth-enabled. It connects to the application designed by the IntellAdapt adaptive learning platform.

The student connects to his or her first learning module. Brainiak analyzes the brain in real-time and based on the results obtained, the subsequent learning modules are automatically presented to the student’s learning style. This process facilitates successful retention and acquisition of a subject.

The learning models identified by Brainiak AI and the EEG headband are:

Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship learning model is based on the “learning by doing” approach. This means concepts are visualized, with emphasis on real-world contexts. Practical exercises, games and simulations help learners understand concepts through the processes they inform.

Incidental

Incidental learning happens when you learn something without having set out explicitly to do so. Knowledge is here a byproduct of experience. For example, we often don’t truly consider the physical properties of the machines we use until they stop working. The chain coming off your bicycle becomes an incidental occasion for learning how the chain and gears are meant to contact each other. In an academic setting, this means leading students to pick up pieces of information along the way to some other, seemingly unrelated destination.

Inductive

Inductive learning happens when students extrapolate conceptual knowledge from a set of data points. Depending on the course, a student may be given a set of terms and asked to group the terms into categories. From there, they hypothesize about how those categories of terms relate to each other, refining those hypotheses as more evidence becomes available. With inductive learning, students are not simply told what’s going on: with guidance, they achieve conceptual understanding through their own curiosity.

Deductive

Opposed to inductive learning is deductive learning. Rather than students extrapolating conceptual knowledge, a teacher delivers the concept upfront. The student is then asked to implement the concept in order to determine outcomes. In this case, the student creates a data set by engaging with the concept being taught. Deductive learning is, therefore, a more teacher-centric approach, as it depends foremost on the faithful delivering of conceptual knowledge.

Discovery

The discovery learning model encourages students to solve problems using their prior knowledge, intuition, and creativity to incorporate new information. Learners are allowed to learn at their own pace; this relieves the potential stress of learning and encourages students to own their education. Rather than simply memorizing the correct answer, students learn how to interpret and analyze information in ways that engender conceptual understanding. Because it depends so much on the student, the discovery learning model boasts an excellent retention rate.
